Based in the Imperial city of Kyoto, we offer traditional Kyoto shophouses (Machiya), both unrenovated and move-in-ready, in central Kyoto.
We also source, restore and relocate ancient temples, old sake breweries, farmhouses (kominkas) and other heritage buildings from all over Japan to resort areas like Niseko, Hakuba or anywhere where our clients want, including overseas.
Heritage Homes is a fully licensed architectural firm, contractor, real estate agent and property management. We are also registered Project Managers, regulated and insured by the Construction Managers Association of Japan (CMAJ).

Who is Heritage Homes Japan?
Heritage Homes Japan is a small team of dedicated professionals, all with a passion for restoring Japan’s beautiful architectural heritage. We are very niche and very focused; we work predominantly with pre-war Kyoto Machiya (shophouses) and traditional farmhouses.
These are the essence of traditional Japanese homes, and it is our privilege to preserve and restore them for future generations.
We also believe these buildings are by far the best real estate investment you can make in Japan. Modern trends come and go, but Japan’s rich heritage of traditional wooden houses is eternally popular.
