Renovation Update on a 100-year-old Machiya
Our team is currently undertaking the renovation of a 100-year-old Machiya in Gion, Kyoto, a former tea house that carries immense cultural significance. Located in the quiet part of Gion, next to one of Kyoto’s few remaining Geisha academies. This Machiya offers a unique glimpse into traditional Japanese culture. The sounds of Shamisen and singing practice from the academy fill the air, adding to the property’s charm. The process will take around six months; the renovation has to be done very carefully by highly skilled temple carvers (Miayadaiku).
