Situated near the iconic Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and adjacent to the vibrant Kamishichiken geisha district, this historic machiya represents the rich architectural history of Kyoto. Before renovation, the property displayed its authentic charm, but it needed significant updates to meet modern living standards while maintaining its traditional appeal.

The “before” photos capture the property’s original features, including wooden beams, sliding doors, and tatami-floored rooms. These elements highlight the unique craftsmanship typical of machiyas from this era. Despite its charm, the structure showed signs of wear, emphasizing the importance of balancing restoration and preservation.
